Well – after some continuing issues both with mail in general, but specifically with the quality of the spam filtering (or lack thereof) with PlusNet, I decided that it was time to add in some extra filtering. Enter GMail, Googles mail application. I’ve had a GMail account for a while now, although I don’t use it that much. However, it _does_ have very good spam filtering. And, even more importantly, it can forward mail for you. So I simply forward my main address to GMail, and then forward GMail to my ISP mailbox. Voila! Instant spam filtering that actually works!

Gmail’s spam filtering is extremely good, though I have had issues in the past where it appears to have eaten mail that’s been forwarded from another account, so it’s probably worth a little test email from the email address(es) you’re forwarding from.
