Given that it’s the 24th day in my Lent series, I thought I would dedicate the post to that king of all action series - 24! Season 5 has got underway on Sky - big shout out to Gordie who has been hosting us at his and Peter’s flat most Sunday nights. So far this season has been excellent - one of the best, I reckon, although probably not _the_ best.
24 is just one of those classic series, IMO - one of those rare delights to come out of America, surrounded by all the usual dross. Each episode is beautifully crafted, and every emotion pulled from the viewer. Jack Bauer is a character that we love and hate, that we fear and yet empathise with, that makes us cheer, and makes us tremble. And the plotlines twist and turn until you’re not really sure which way is out.
Best of all, unlike Lost, you get a decent conclusion at the end of the series!
The other great thing about 24 is that it has a relatively low threshold for new viewers - most episodes are reasonably self-contained and self-explanatory. If you haven’t watched it yet, then I would wholeheartedly recommend it.
