Well - it finally happened. 14 episodes and 1 film back-to-back. >13 hours of Firefly goodness. And it was good.
The day started with a bunch of annoyance - neuro’s car had a flat, bagpuss_thecats cat was ill, supergingerman was, well, still in bed
Which meant that the party didn’t get going until 11, at which point it was me on my tod
However, neuro and sgm soon joined me.
Watching the whole thing through was a great experience, and a wonderful way to enjoy some of the best television from the last few years. And the party was a nice way to relax and enjoy it with friends.
I’d read on a forum that there was a difference in the pitch of the sound when it came to the film, due to the frame-rate difference between UK and US TVs. Personally I thought they were talking rubbish until I went from watching the series into the film - the sound seemed almost out-of-sync, even though it wasn’t. Very disorientating. (Of course, it could’ve been the beer speaking……)
The film does have a very different feel to it - there are still moments when I feel sincerely cheated out of a quality series of TV episodes leading up to a very grand finale. Equally, however, I am aware that the movie format, and budget, allowed Joss to experiment in ways that would never have been possible on TV.
Once again, I thoroughly recommend that you buy the DVD - both the series and the film - they are very worthwhile investments. Most importantly, you will have a very direct impact on whether or not a sequel is commissioned. And we want our Big Damn Trilogy.
