Compensation Culture

You have got to be kidding!?!?

What kind of warped country do we live in when someone who basically botches their own suicide can sue the NHS for not arriving on time?

I think the NHS should counter-sue for her wasting precious emergency service time by not doing it right in the first place.

Grrrr.

The ambulance service were not in the wrong, and IMO shouldn’t have paid out.

*BUT* PND is a serious illness and people who have it, and try to kill themselves shouldn’t be laughed at. Any sort of Depression is a serious bad thing.

While many suicide attempts are nothing more than attention grabs – there’s a serious proportion that are not – they really are people with somuch dispear that they see no way out bar death. These people deserve our help and symapthy – but not our taxpounds.

If anything – the blame should fall on her after-care, who should have known what to look for – especially in a 21yr old mother of 2 – why were they not keeping a closer eye on her, and treating her for PND. If, on the other hand, they were, why are they not sued for insufficent aftercare?

  2. That is truly amazing.

Of course, the US is, if anything, even more famous for huge compensations for ridiculous lawsuits, and I’m sure Canada has their share as well….

Perhaps you should sue the TimesOnline for causing you excessive aggravation with stories of this sort…

Sorry – perhaps I verged on the crass in the way I presented my anger. I didn’t want to imply that the women’s situation wasn’t tragic, nor that PND or any form of depression isn’t serious, or that people who attempt suicide aren’t entitled to a quality of care. I was just frustrated at the implications of this kind of payout upon our society.

Yes, the compensation culture of our society is rather depressing at times. Furthermore, what does it serve? It just takes away more money from frontline services – and then, people moan that those services are cut!

  5. does that mean that i could possibly be sud if someone who i am treating for cancer dies? :S:S

it is kinda worrying as in a few months ill be on placement at a hospital, and im on a tightrope for being sued.

better start getting a lawyer then…

  6. Cheezy says:

    Superginge,ill be your lawyer.

I have connections to “the boys”,so there’ll either be an out of court settlement,or an “accident”,not that the boys would have anything to do with that ;p
