The mighty Reds marched on to the Champions League final tonight, beating Chelsea in a nail-biting 1-0 victory at Anfield. I can’t say that I really believed that we would make it, but having beat Chelsea, I now think we might just scrape the final – I think AC Milan (assuming nothing amazing happens tomorrow) will be easier to beat. Massively excited, none the less. mrBen (1 Comment)

Oh. My. God. Too much excitement about this one.

Moments of class include the Cyberman head (are they all dead as well?), the Slitheen claw in the case, the crazy “I own the Internet” guy, the young genius, the light flirting between Rose and boy genius, THE DALEK!!!, all the time war stuff, the independent movement of the Dalek torso, the levitation (Elevate!), and just everything else…

I know I’ve been gushing about the series, and there’s really only been one episode I’ve not liked as much as the rest, but this really is the BEST Dr Who I’ve ever seen. I never thought I’d ever have sympathy for a Dalek. And I’m not going to tell you why I’d have sympathy because I don’t want to spoil the ending for this one if you haven’t yet seen it.

All I will say is that I was close to tears…

But back to the story. The Doc responds to a distress beacon which leads him to a underground museum on Earth that collects alien artifacts. Once the Doc finds the Dalek much badness follows.

Effects: A Dalek. Which hovers. And flys. And the bit when the case opens? Different class.

Acting: The best performance so far from Eccleston and Piper. Especially the Doctor/ Dalek scene and the last one with Rose and the Dalek.

Sets/Locations: An underground base / museum in the the United States. I really liked the Dalek interrogation room.

Script: Clever & flawless. Really managed to stir up some genuine emotion at the end.

Overall: The best yet. But the quite sad in a way. The end of an era I suppose.

I know ep4 didn’t really ring my bell as much as I hoped. The second part of the story more than made up for it.

The Slitheen seem determined to turn the world into a radioactive mess by faking an alien invasion and then auctioning off chunks of the Earth to fuel interstellar drives.

And the Doctor has to ruin this. What a spoiler.

Effects: An improvement on the previous week. The costume slitheen is still much better than the cgi Slitheen.

Acting: All good, but I feel I must comment on Penelope Wilton who really outperformed everyone at the end. As did the lass who plays Rose’s mum, although offhand I can’t remember her name.

Sets/Locations: The destruction of Downing St (and most of Whitehall by the looks of it) was spectacular.

Script: Back to form.

Overall: Back to form. (Is there an echo here?)

And if it’s not going to be BigAl, then it has to be me.

Doctor Who was kickass on Saturday night.

I was massively impressed with the way they dealt with the Dalek, and toyed with it’s (and our) emotions. I’ve enjoyed the series so far, but this was the outstanding episode IMHO. If you didn’t catch it, then go and beg someone to lend you a copy if they taped it.
