Venue: The Garage, Glasgow
When: 8th April 2005 @ some point after 8pm

This is the first time I’ve seen the Tree since the Stupid Dream tour and if anything they were miles better this time. Most of the set was from the last two albums (Lightbulb Sun & In Absentia) and the new album (Deadwing), none of which I have.

They did play one of my favourite PT tracks: Even Less.

It was an absolutely excellent gig, very possibly the best I’ve been to so far. The thing I’ve noticed both times I’ve seen them live is that they’re one of the most precise bands I’ve ever seen.

Now usually I’m all for the band I’m watching to adlib, jam and even (from time to time) make an arse of it. But sometimes it’s good to watch top class musicians playing well. Very well.

And to top the night off I went crazy and bought some over-priced merchandise (if only because my old PT t-shirt is dying a slow death).

Good to see married life hasn’t completely deprived you of a social life big guy! ;-) Sounds like a really good gig, and reading your (incredibly indepth) review has re-awoken my fading memories of the Stupid Dream album to the extent that im listening to it now for the first time in about a year! Oh, how sweet it sounds! I have the subtle influences of the JediMoose to thank for introducing me to this splendid and uplifting band, and am now going to make an effort to chase up their more recent offerings.
Good call on ‘Even Less’ its a superb track, my personal favourite being ‘Piano Lessons’ - brings a smile to my face every time!

Anyone out there not familiar with this band is missing something really special. Come on, with a name like Porcupine Tree you know they deserve a listen!

Bye for now

Aye mate. This is the problem with posting a gig review two weeks after going to see them. And I know i should have picked up the more recent albums…

Anyway, good to see you back online Button 23. Any chance of a new website in the works?

Its a disgrace BigAl, on my way to work I heard something on the radio that made me physically sick. You know this current trend of getting an old song and putting a crap dance beat behind it?, ah la Eric Pridz or what ever, well someone has now done it with ‘Yes’ and ‘Owner of..’

I expect you to deal with this matter personally!!!!!!

Rock on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on etc

G.I :)
