Compulsory overtime?

This is going to sound like such a whinge… :)

At work at the moment we’re expected to produce data 7 days a week for some companies. That means that, as there is no seperate weekend staff, we have to come in either Saturday or Sunday. There are some people in the office (who shall remain nameless) who rarely have a day off.

This is partly because our department manager, the venerable Fatneck, has told certain companies that we will quite happily get them their data 7 day a week. Good going there Fatneck.

This year as Christmas Day falls on a Saturday we get the Monday and Tuesday off. Great. But there are some in the office who have NO OTHER CHOICE but to come in on that Monday. Isn’t this wrong?

I have been flying the flag of rebellion within the office for a while now, to no avail. Hopefully, I’ll help convince people that they don’t have to come in if they don’t want to. They shouldn’t have to be emotionally blackmailed by their team leaders.

Peer pressure is such a wonderful thing.

Whinge over…

One Response to Compulsory overtime?

  1. Perhaps you should read your state labor laws and the Fair Labor Standards Act. You may find you must be paid for your work. (At 1.5 times your average rate of pay.)
